Turkmenistan plans to start negotiations with the European Investment Bank on a draft bilateral framework agreement, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The proposals were announced at a meeting of the Turkmen government by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.
"The activation of trade and economic relations will serve as an additional tool for attracting investment from the EU and European states in important economic projects being implemented in our country."
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Ashgabat is working closely with international banks and financial institutions, implementing mutually beneficial partnerships in the areas of lending and investment.
For example, since 1 June 1992, Turkmenistan has been cooperating with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which has supported the development of the textile industry, agriculture, transport and logistics, and the private sector in the country. In more than 30 years, 87 projects have been implemented in Turkmenistan with EBRD funding.
