President Shavkat Mirziyoyev meets Chinese PM Li Qiang in his state visit
The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, embarked on a significant state visit to the People's Republic of China, initiating discussions with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang at the House of People's Meetings, Uzbekistan's presidential press service reported on January 24.
Prime Minister Li Qiang acknowledged the unprecedented elevation of Uzbekistan-China relations across various domains, attributing this success to the political will and collaborative efforts of the two nations' leaders. Trade between the two countries witnessed a remarkable 50% increase last year, reaching a record $14bn. Both leaders expressed optimism about the potential to further boost this figure to $20bn, emphasizing increased mutual supply of high-quality industrial and agricultural products.
Chinese investments in Uzbekistan's economy have surpassed $14 bn, reflecting a robust economic partnership. Discussions during the meeting encompassed the modernization of infrastructure, expanded industrial cooperation, technology transfer in agriculture, and the formulation of targeted programs for the development of "green" energy.
The leaders also delved into the deepening of practical collaboration with prominent Chinese banking and financial institutions. They explored the prospect of Chinese companies participating in privatization processes within Uzbekistan. President Mirziyoyev extended an invitation to the Prime Minister of the State Council of the PRC to visit Uzbekistan.
The discussions highlighted the positive outcomes of the inaugural Uzbek-Chinese regional forum and industrial exhibition held in Urumqi on January 22. The event facilitated valuable exchanges on education, culture, and economic opportunities between the two nations. The ongoing educational forum and Days of Uzbekistan culture in China were also lauded, emphasizing the importance of expanding air travel and tourism exchanges.
Earlier Daryo reported that Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, accompanied by his wife, initiated a state visit to the People's Republic of China on January 23. The Capital International Airport welcomed President Mirziyoyev with a splendid reception, featuring flags of both Uzbekistan and China adorning the surroundings. Minister of Culture and Tourism of China, Sun Yeli, and other prominent officials warmly received President Mirziyoyev, highlighting the importance of this diplomatic visit.
