Uzbekistan's President Mirziyoyev addresses China: Vision for enhanced cooperation

Uzbekistan's President Mirziyoyev addresses China: Vision for enhanced cooperation

President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrives in China on an official visit on January 22 at the invitation of Xi Jinping and extends his greetings as the new year arrives and the new opportunities for collaborations arise, Chinese media report.

President Mirziyoyev praises China's remarkable progress over the past decade, noting its transformation into a global powerhouse through scientific and technological advancements. He expresses genuine pleasure in Uzbekistan's deepening relations with China, emphasizing the historical ties dating back to the Great Silk Road.

    Historical Exchange and Knowledge Transfer

The president also highlights the historical exchange of knowledge, citing the visit of the Han Dynasty's envoy to the Fergana Valley in 126 BC and the contributions of Central Asian scholars to Chinese science.

President Mirziyoyev highlights the flourishing trade, economic, and investment collaboration between Uzbekistan and China, with bilateral trade surging by 40% and China leading among trading partners. Significant Chinese investments across various sectors, including high technology and alternative energy, reflect a fivefold increase. Uzbekistan aims to generate 27GW of renewable energy by 2030, focusing on the Syrdarya region for innovative projects.

A Shared Vision: The Belt and Road Initiative

Cultural and humanitarian ties remain robust, fostering increased Chinese language learning and tourism infrastructure development. Uzbekistan actively participates in China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative, contributing to regional development and dispelling skepticism about being merely a transit corridor.

President Mirziyoyev sees China's strategic role as transformative for Central Asia, converting geographic disadvantages into advantages. The first Central Asia-China summit in Xi'an laid the groundwork for integrated development, industrial cooperation, and enhanced connectivity.

    Public Diplomacy and Future Prospects

Looking forward, the president emphasizes the need for a new long-term agenda, focusing on global intercivilizational dialogue, elevating bilateral relations, addressing sustainability challenges, and developing transport infrastructure. Public diplomacy plays a crucial role in strengthening Uzbek-Chinese friendship, with optimism for future cooperation and joint creative plans.

The president extends warm Lunar New Year wishes to China, expressing hope for continued success and prosperity in the 75th anniversary year of the State's founding. The future cooperation between Uzbekistan and China holds promise, grounded in a shared commitment to stability, sustainable development, and global prosperity.
