President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrives in China for state visit
On January 23, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, accompanied by his wife, has commenced a state visit to the People's Republic of China, presidential press service reported.
The distinguished arrival of President Mirziyoyev at the Capital International Airport was marked by a grand reception, with the surroundings adorned with the flags of both Uzbekistan and China.
Minister of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China, Sun Yeli, alongside other high-ranking officials, received President Mirziyoyev, underscoring the significance of the visit.
As per the carefully crafted visit program, January 24 is slated for pivotal engagements in Beijing. President Mirziyoyev is scheduled to engage in crucial negotiations with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping. Additionally, a series of bilateral meetings with various officials and representatives from the Chinese business community are on the agenda, aiming to explore collaborative opportunities and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
On January 22, the first Uzbek-Chinese interregional forum took place in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, highlighting a significant increase of $14 bn in trade turnover over the past six years. The forum attracted prominent participants, including leaders from key ministries, departments, industry associations, chambers of commerce and industry, holding companies, and over 1,200 representatives from the vibrant business communities of both countries.
Earlier Daryo reported that President Mirziyoyev underscores the robust trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and China, witnessing a substantial 40% surge in bilateral trade, where China stands out as a primary trading partner. Notably, Chinese investments have seen a fivefold rise, particularly in sectors like high technology and alternative energy. Uzbekistan's ambitious goal involves achieving 27GW of renewable energy by 2030, with a strategic emphasis on the Syrdarya region for pioneering projects.
