Uzbekistan to sell 300,000 tons of GTL naphtha in 2024

Uzbekistan to sell 300,000 tons of GTL naphtha in 2024

Uzbekistan GTL has initiated a competitive selection process for the sale of Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) naphtha produced by the Uzbekistan GTL plant. The announcement specifies the sale of 300,000 tons for export, utilizing Free Carrier (FCA) conditions (Incoterms 2020) for shipment in railway tanks. The transport period spans from March 2024 to December 2024, with potential extensions.

The pricing mechanism for the GTL naphtha is determined by the daily quotation of Naphtha in S&P Global Platts, referencing the "European products ($/mt), Mediterranean, (code PAAAI00), FOB (Italy), Middle price" published on the day of product delivery. The price includes a differential with the flexibility of a positive or negative value.

Interested parties have until January 12, 2024, at 15:00 Tashkent time (GMT +5) to submit their proposals.

In the broader context, the Uzbekistan GTL plant is gearing up to produce over 1 mn tons of environmentally friendly synthetic products in 2024. The competitive selection process emphasizes the prioritized and uninterrupted supply of GTL naphtha to the domestic market for all consumers without restrictions.

What is GTL naphtha used for?

GTL naphtha possesses a high paraffinic content, making it an excellent raw material for naphtha crackers. This chemical process generates essential light hydrocarbons like ethylene and propylene, crucial for manufacturing plastics and diverse chemicals.

Utilizing naphtha from GTL plants offers numerous advantages. In terms of product quality and uniformity, it outperforms competitors in its category: GTL naphtha is 98% paraffinic, devoid of aromatics, sulfur, or metallic impurities. This leads to significantly lower coking rates in furnace tubes during cracking, extending operational run times.

Moreover, GTL naphtha yields more products compared to other naphtha varieties, directly contributing to increased profitability for plant operators. Additionally, the use of GTL naphtha allows the certification of a portion of the products as environmentally sustainable when derived from sustainable feedstocks.

Uzbekistan GTL  states that the company aims to position itself as a cutting-edge facility globally, producing high-quality fuels with minimal environmental impact, fostering eco-friendly transportation, and contributing to economic advancement. Utilizing Uzbekistan's natural gas, the plant plans to manufacture exceptionally clean and advanced fuels, employing state-of-the-art technology in the nation's already impressive energy sector. In collaboration with Sasol, a South African company, NHC Uzbekneftegaz is executing one of today's most ambitious global energy initiatives, intending to establish new benchmarks in fuel performance and showcase the promising prospects within Uzbekistan.
