Gazprom, the Russian energy giant, has doubled its gas supplies to Uzbekistan in response to a request from Tashkent, as per the Interfax.
Record-breaking supplies
Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, announced during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that the volume of supplies is currently twice the volume stipulated by the contract. This corresponds to the maximum capacity of the GTS "CAC" in this direction.
Constructive partnership
Miller emphasized the constructive and neighbourly nature of Gazprom’s relationship with its partners. He noted that due to the severe cold weather in Central Asia, Uzbek colleagues requested an increase in gas supplies. As a result, Gazprom is now supplying Uzbekistan with the maximum technically possible volume of gas that can be supplied through the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline.
Strategic agreement
In October, Russian gas supplies to Uzbekistan began through the reversed “Central Asia-Center” gas transmission system. The two-year agreement between UzGaztrade JSC and Gazprom Export LLC involves an export volume of 9 mn cubic meters per day or almost 2.8bn cubic meters per year.
Historic achievement
On December 23, Gazprom set a new historical record for daily deliveries of Russian gas to China through the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. In 2023, gas supplies to China are expected to grow by one and a half times compared to the level of 2022. By 2025, they are expected to reach the maximum contract level of 38bn cubic meters.
