Uzbekistan is planning to phase out Ai-80 gasoline, a move that aligns with global trends and regional practices. Ai-80 gasoline is already banned in many countries, including Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which are full importers of petroleum products. Currently, Ai-80 gasoline continues to be used in the region only in Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, Xabar.uz reports.
Phasing out Ai-80 production
By 2025, the production of Ai-80 at the Fergana oil refinery will be stopped. The Fergana oil refinery has scaled up the production of Ai-80 gasoline by more than 50% in winter. In January-November 2022, the enterprise produced an average of 800 tons of products per day, whereas this indicator reached 1250 tons on December 14.
By 2026, the Bukhara oil refinery will be completely transferred to the production of higher-quality fuel. The Bukhara oil refinery is expected to produce 36,500 tonnes of AI-91, 13,100 tonnes of AI-92, and 1,400 tonnes of AI-95.
Ensuring market stability
Measures are planned to ensure there is no shortage in the fuel market and no interruption in consumption. By expanding the activities of foreign gasoline importers, the consumer market is kept in balance. Foreign investors such as Tatneft, Saneg and Lukoil will be allowed to build more gas stations.
Saneg, Uzbekistan’s largest privately-held oil and gas company, has announced a 350% increase in gas production from fields it was given responsibility for in 2019, along with a 55% rise in oil production. Saneg accounts for about 5% of gas production in Uzbekistan.
Fuel quality and price stability
As a result of these measures, it is planned to achieve fuel quality and price stability in the market as a result of the competition with local entrepreneurs. At the same time, a proposal is being prepared on not exceeding a certain limit when setting the price of Ai-80 gasoline. Just as the highest price for one cubic meter of gas is set at UZS 3,250 ($0.26) at methane gas stations, a certain price is also offered for Ai-80 gasoline.
