There have been recent reports suggesting that Uzbekistan is imposing restrictions on the purchase of Ai-80 gasoline, sparking concerns about a potential gasoline shortage.
However, the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumers' Rights has refuted these claims, clarifying that there are currently no restrictions on the purchase of Ai-80 gasoline.
It is important to note that around 80% of gasoline in Uzbekistan is typically sold in 1-ton lots, with the remaining portion being sold in wagon rates of 60 and 55 tons. Currently, there are no limitations on the purchase of Ai-80 gasoline in stock exchanges.
On the contrary, the committee has pointed out that the supply of Ai-80 gasoline has increased by 14% in October compared to August. This expansion in supply allows more buyers to access the product, creating favorable conditions for consumers.
To address the seasonal fluctuations in gasoline demand and the price volatility in the market, the committee has the authority to determine the maximum amount of product purchases during a single sale. This regulatory approach helps stabilize prices, and it has been effectively employed for several years during periods of heightened demand.
As a result, in August 2023, amid rising gasoline prices, the maximum purchase amount was set at 5 tons. These measures, combined with increased supply, contributed to a 10% reduction in gasoline prices on stock exchanges by the end of September and the first half of October. This helped stabilize the market.
Taking into account these factors and considering the negative trends in global markets, such as increased oil prices and restrictions on gasoline exports, the maximum amount of product purchases was increased to 10 tons starting from October 17.
Currently, Ai-80 gasoline is available at a stable price of up to UZS 6,800 ($0.00056) at more than 99% of the over two thousand gas stations in Uzbekistan.
On October 19, representatives from various authorities, including the Ministry of Energy, the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor's Office, the Tax Committee, JSC "Uzbekneftgaz," JSC "Sanoat Energetika Grupu" LLC, JSC "UzRTXB," and "Ozenergoinspeksia," met to discuss the issues related to increasing the volume of gasoline sold and ensuring price stability.
In response to concerns about potential gasoline shortages, the Committee for the Prevention of Unreasonable Increase in Retail Prices, along with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor's Office, the Tax Committee, and "Uzenergoinspektsia," established both republican and regional working groups.
The committee emphasizes that they are actively working alongside relevant ministries and agencies to take necessary measures to prevent gasoline supply shortages and any related disturbances in the market.
The message from the committee reassures the public, stating,
"We inform you that today there are no factors that cause unrest in the issue of gasoline supply."
Furthermore, it was clarified that reports about an increase in the price of Ai-80 gasoline from November 1 are unfounded, and prices will continue to be implemented in the established manner at the company's gas stations, as confirmed by the press secretary of "Uzbekneftgaz."
