The Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbaeva, addressed concerns over statements made by Russian politician Zakhar Prilepin during a youth forum in Tashkent. Prilepin earlier had suggested the inclusion of Uzbekistan into Russia, sparking reactions online.
During a meeting with young people at the Senate building on December 25, Norboeva responded, saying, "You see, on the Internet, there have been some speeches saying, 'We will make Uzbekistan this way, we will make Uzbekistan that way.' Uzbekistan will never be a colony for anyone. We were there, we will not go back to it."
Narbaeva highlighted the importance of unity, referencing the Jadidist movement and emphasizing the need for shared thoughts and work. She expressed the historical resistance to colonial influences that aimed to prevent the state from progressing.
Earlier, Zakhar Prilepin, co-chairman of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" party, suggested that the significant number of Uzbek citizens working in Russia could lead to the annexation of Uzbekistan by the Russian Federation.

In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan summoned the Russian ambassador and conveyed concerns about the negative impact such statements could have on bilateral relations. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, clarified that Prilepin's words were his personal opinion, and relations between the two countries were based on respect for sovereignty.
The Uzbek public is urging a robust response, including the initiation of a criminal case against Prilepin under the article of openly calling for an attack on the constitutional system of Uzbekistan. Calls are also made for additional measures to address the situation.
