President Sadyr Japarov, addressing the second People's Congress, underscored the detrimental impact of corruption on the country's growth. In a report by 24.kg, President Japarov acknowledged that the persistence of corruption has impeded Kyrgyzstan's development, making it unattractive to investors.
The president, however, delivered a message of hope by highlighting the success of recent anti-corruption measures. Billions of dollars, previously lost to corrupt practices, are now returning to the state treasury. President Japarov emphasized the critical role of these measures in restoring investor confidence, asserting,
"No investor bets on a country with criminal elements."
He lamented the interference of certain officials in the affairs of investors, citing instances of bribery and lobbying that tarnish the nation's reputation on the global stage.
To tackle these systemic issues, President Japarov announced a robust commitment to intensify the fight against corruption. He stated,
"The brutal fight against corruption will continue and will be strengthened,"
underscoring the need for a sustained effort.
In response to this commitment, a working group has been established to develop the State strategy for combating corruption for the years 2025-2030. President Japarov personally oversees this initiative and has tasked the group with formulating an effective plan for implementing anti-corruption measures.
President Japarov's vision extends beyond short-term remedies, as he emphasized that the fight against corruption must become an enduring aspect of governance.
"The fight against corruption is not a one-time event; it should be a permanent work,"
he declared, signaling a strategic shift toward ingraining anti-corruption efforts into the fabric of Kyrgyzstan's governance.
Earlier Daryo reported that Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (SCNS) has arrested four school directors in Bishkek for allegedly accepting illegal bribes. This move is part of the SCNS's dedicated campaign to address corruption within the nation's educational establishments.
