    Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security cracks down on corruption: four school directors apprehended

    Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security cracks down on corruption: four school directors apprehended

    In a startling development, the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan has apprehended four school directors in Bishkek on charges of accepting illicit bribes. These detentions come as part of a concerted effort by the SCNS to combat corruption within the country's educational institutions.

    The most recent arrest, which occurred on September 1, involved a school director who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of 5,000 soms ($57) in exchange for a favorable decision regarding a child's transfer to her school. The suspect was promptly taken into custody and placed in the temporary detention center of the special services.

    The detention took place in the office of Gulnura Arziyeva, the director of school No. 51, as depicted in a photo released by the state committee.

    The SCNS underlined the gravity of the situation, reminding all educational administrators of a presidential decree issued on May 26. The decree unequivocally states that;

    "Illegal collection of funds and creation of public funds at schools are prohibited in state educational organizations, and the purchase of necessary goods and services for the activities of an educational institution is financed from the state budget of the Kyrgyz Republic."

    In light of this, the SCNS issued a stern warning to school principals to immediately cease any involvement in illegal fundraising activities. The committee emphasized the severe criminal consequences that await those who continue to engage in such unlawful practices.

    These detentions signal a significant step in Kyrgyzstan's ongoing efforts to combat corruption within its educational institutions. The government's commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the integrity of its education system remains unwavering, as demonstrated by these recent actions by the SCNS.
