The issue of launching a pilot container train on the Iran-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan route is being considered, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov said in his address to the country's People's Kurultai (Assembly) on 15 December.
Construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will begin in the near future, he said. "The issue of launching a pilot container train Iran-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan is also under consideration".
"I am confident that the above initiatives and ongoing projects will allow Kyrgyzstan to reach a new level of transport and logistics communication with the outside world."
Experts told Daryo that Iran and Kyrgyzstan are now in talks to prepare the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the issue.
Ashgabat, for its part, is discussing with interested countries ways to create favourable conditions for cargo traffic through the Caspian port of Turkmenbashi. This route could be used as part of the transnational China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Europe route.
