Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova met with Katja Schaefer, Interregional Adviser for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat).
The parties exchanged views on further actions to open the UN-Habitat office in Turkmenistan, as well as the need to develop a legal framework for cooperation, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
Experts say the establishment of the Ashgabat office will serve the development of inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities in Turkmenistan.
UN Habitat, which works to ensure adequate shelter for all and sustainable urban development, was founded in 1978. It works to promote good urban governance - the rapid, effective response to urban problems by local authorities acting in co-operation with civil society.
