Turkmenistan and Afghanistan are planning to form a joint committee comprising railway officials of the two countries, Pajhwok Afghan News reports.
"To increase cargo transportation, resolve problems of traders and improve coordination between the two sides."
Previously, it was reported that the talks in Ashgabat were led by Bakht Rahman Sharafat, head of Afghanistan's Railway Authority.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan hopes to enter the Chinese markets, and from there the Asia-Pacific region, through the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) railway.
Ashgabat has already built railway tracks to Afghanistan's borders and has taken on the task of laying rails to the Afghan cities of Aqina and Herat.
Afghanistan is also involved in the Lapis Lazuli international transit project through Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey to Europe.
Cargoes from the Afghan city of Turgundi are expected to travel by rail to the Caspian port of Turkmenbashi.
