Cooperation between Turkmenistan and China in the field of energy, transport and logistics sectors were identified as priority areas of bilateral cooperation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports that a meeting of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was held in Ashgabat. The Turkmen delegation was headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, while the Chinese side by Vice Premier of the State Council Ding Xuexiang.
The paries expressed to build up the partnership in such areas as trade, energy, transport, infrastructure, agriculture and creating a favourable climate for entrepreneurs of the two countries.
"It was stated that Turkmenistan and China have great potential for developing cooperation in the technological field."
Local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports that the agenda of the committee meeting included issues related to stimulating investment interaction and implementation of new joint projects.
"Here, a vivid example of successful synergy of efforts is the implementation of the megaproject for the construction of a transnational gas pipeline, which provides uninterrupted supplies of Turkmen natural gas to China."
Xuexiang was received by Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who noted that China has been the country's largest foreign economic partner for many years.
Turkmenistan is the only one of the five Central Asian states with a positive trade balance with China. Ashgabat received $10.25bn from gas supplies there in 2022, more than 50% more than a year earlier, according to China's General Administration of Customs.
Experts told Daryo that CNPC expects to increase its annual purchases of Turkmen gas from the current 40bn cubic metres to 65bn cubic metres.
To this end, the fourth branch D of the transnational pipeline through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is under construction. The existing branches A, B and C were previously built through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
