Afghanistan Railway Authority reports on social network X that its head Bakht Rahman Sharafat departed to Ashgabat on an official invitation from Turkmenistan.
The delegation will discuss bilateral cooperation, enhancement of goods, transportation, and other related issues with Turkmen railway officials.
The two countries recently agreed to increase freight traffic on the railway line from Serhetabat to Turgundi.
Experts told Daryo that this land port is included in the Lapis Lazuli (Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey) international transit project.
According to the project, railways and highways are to connect Turgundi to Ashgabat and then to the Caspian port of Turkmenbashi. The corridor will continue to Baku, then via Tbilisi to Ankara with branches to Poti and Batumi.
Turkmenistan also expects the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) railway to open up markets in China and, from there, the Asia-Pacific region.
Ashgabat has already built railway lines to the Afghan border and has taken on the task of laying tracks to the Afghan cities of Aqina and Herat.
