Turkmenistan is preparing a state programme to ensure the safety of civil aviation, the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan reports.
Mammetkhan Chakiyev, Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers, said this at a government meeting. According to him, there are also plans to set up an interdepartmental commission in this field.
"The ongoing work is aimed at ensuring a high level of safety, stability and efficiency of flights in accordance with the standards, experience and practices of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)."
Turkmenistan Airlines is the country's only national carrier and flies to ten destinations in Europe and Asia.
Turkmenistan became a member of ICAO in 1993. The airline is a partner of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the Space Operations Council and the Interstate Aviation Committee.
The local fleet includes Boeing (USA) and Airbus (France) aircraft.
