The latest seminar, organized with the backing of the Uzbekistan Embassy in Italy and the Council for Agricultural Research and Economic Analysis (CREA), revolved around adapting agriculture to climate change.
Experts from Uzbekistan, along with representatives from the International Center for Strategic Development and Research in Food and Agriculture (ISCAD) under the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, participated in the event. Italian researchers delved into the nation's agricultural policy, highlighting the ramifications of climate change and the corresponding measures implemented to counteract them.
Italy is grappling with escalating issues such as land degradation, salinization, soil erosion, water resource scarcity, and increased prevalence of plant diseases. The strategic placement of agricultural crops in alignment with soil and climatic conditions emerged as a critical consideration. The adoption of rational land use practices was underscored as pivotal in addressing these challenges.
The seminar underscored the growing interest among Italian experts in the comprehensive agricultural reforms, ongoing investment projects, and the objectives outlined in the Uzbekistan-2030 strategy. Post-event discussions led to an agreement for close collaboration within the framework of investment projects aimed at fostering knowledge and innovation in agriculture.
CREA, boasting 12 research centers, more than 2,500 registered scientists, and 66 experimental farms, is a key player in these endeavors. Covering an extensive area of 5,335 hectares, the organization conducts scientific experiments and develops science-based proposals and recommendations at both international and national levels.
