The committee responsible for sanitary-epidemiological well-being and public health responded to alarming reports indicating a significant surge in measles cases among children in the Namangan region. As per the latest information, the Namangan region has established 340 hospitals specifically for inpatient treatment of individuals suspected of having measles. Among these, 240 hospitals are situated within the regional infectious diseases hospital, while the remaining 100 are located in the Beshkapa Children's Hospital of the region.
Presently, there are 235 patients undergoing treatment in 240 beds within the regional infectious diseases hospital, with an additional 5 beds reserved for future cases. Simultaneously, the Beshkapa Children's Hospital is treating 20 patients over two years old in 100 beds, with 80 beds held in reserve. The region currently maintains 85 reserved medical facilities, with 62% of the 285 patients being children under 1 year old, and 25% falling within the 1-3 years age group. Adequate reserves of diagnostics, reagents, and vaccines have been stockpiled in the province.
The region received 9,500 doses of the measles-rubella vaccine, and a total of 1,936 children have been vaccinated against measles, adhering to epidemiological guidelines. At present, vaccination rooms within treatment and prevention institutions possess a surplus of 310 doses of the measles-rubella vaccine.
During the ten months of 2023, a total of 735 laboratory-confirmed cases of measles were reported.
It is emphasized that in November, the state budget facilitated the acquisition of 3mn doses of measles vaccines. These vaccines are designated for vaccination in accordance with epidemic guidelines, targeting children who missed vaccination for documented reasons and those belonging to the high-risk group, specifically those aged between 6 months and 5 years, who have been in contact with a measles patient. The distribution of these vaccines is concurrently underway in various regions.
