Telegram founder Pavel Durov has unveiled a version of the popular messaging app for VisionOS, the operating system designed for Apple's Vision Pro headset. Durov shared a video on the Telegram channel showcasing the augmented reality (AR) experience.
The messenger's interface is transparent, reminiscent of the desktop Telegram version adapted for AR. Notable differences include a separate panel to the left of the main screen for accessing settings, calls, contacts, and messages sections.
Telegram for VisionOS introduces voice input for composing messages, offering a hands-free alternative. Media files can be opened to the full width of the screen, enhancing the multimedia experience.
The video demonstration highlights the capability to watch videos in the messenger, expanding them to full screen and darkening the background for better focus. Noteworthy animations, characteristic of Telegram, exhibit a more pronounced 3D effect in the augmented reality version.
However, the video doesn't clarify whether users will have the option to use an on-screen keyboard.
Apple initially showcased its augmented reality headset, Vision Pro, in June. The Apple Vision Pro headset is set to hit the market in 2024, with a price tag of $3,499 in the United States.
