Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has announced that the platform will block channels promoting violence, citing violations of Telegram's rules and international standards.
One specific example cited by Durov is the blocking of the Dagestan Tong Telegram channel, which had been used to disseminate content encouraging unrest in the Dagestan Republic.
This decision follows an incident on October 29 when a group dissatisfied with military actions in the Middle East stormed the runway of Makhachkala Airport in Dagestan after a flight from Tel Aviv arrived. This led to more than 20 people being injured, and law enforcement initiated a criminal case for mass disorder. Notably, nine law enforcement officers were among the injured, with two requiring medical treatment.
Pavel Durov has emphasized Telegram's commitment to adhering to these principles and complying with the policies of major app stores and the international community.
