The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, engaged in discussions with a high-level delegation from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, led by Prime Minister Anwar ul-Haq Kakar. These discussions took place as part of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit and centered on bolstering bilateral cooperation, particularly in the realms of trade, economy, investment, and transportation and communication.
Both leaders expressed their satisfaction with the progress achieved in the bilateral partnership. Notably, since the beginning of the year, mutual trade and freight between Uzbekistan and Pakistan have surged by a remarkable 40%. Collaborative projects are currently underway in industries such as textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and more, with the establishment of twenty joint ventures to facilitate economic cooperation between the two nations.
The discussions further emphasized the need for swift adoption of the Industrial Cooperation Program for the years 2024-2025, which aims to foster economic collaboration and the removal of trade barriers. By creating favorable conditions for the development of business relations, both countries aim to enhance their economic ties and harness their full potential.
One pivotal agenda item at the meeting was the Trans-Afghan railway construction project. The leaders recognized the strategic importance of this endeavor, which is set to connect the two nations and improve regional connectivity, trade, and economic development. The successful implementation of this railway project will not only benefit Uzbekistan and Pakistan but also contribute to regional stability and prosperity.
In addition to discussing their bilateral agenda, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Anwar ul-Haq Kakar exchanged views on various regional issues.
