Saida Mirziyoyeva, the President's aide, proudly announced the inclusion of Bukhara in UNESCO's prestigious "Creative Cities Network" program. As per Saida Mirziyoyeva, the historical and cultural heritage of this ancient city holds significant importance for the global community. In 2025, Bukhara will host its first Biennale on modern design and craftsmanship under the auspices of the Uzbekistan Culture and Art Development Association.
"I have complete confidence that hosting the Biennale in Bukhara will attract the attention of the international community and encourage even deeper exploration by experts and tourists alike, both within this ancient city and its surroundings," she wrote.
Bukhara becomes the first city in Central Asia to be recognized under UNESCO's "Creative Cities Network" program, specifically in the "Crafts and Folk Art" category. Along with Bukhara, 54 other cities were also included in the list following their designation by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay.
These new urban centers have been recognized for their dedicated efforts in integrating culture and creativity into their development plans, while also demonstrating innovative approaches to people-centric urban design. With these recent incorporations, the network has expanded to encompass a total of 350 cities across over a hundred nations. These cities contribute to the network's representation of seven distinct creative domains, which include Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, and Music.
