Kazakhstan's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has unveiled a draft resolution outlining the establishment of the Caspian Sea Research Institute.
This institute is set to play a pivotal role in investigating environmental concerns in the Caspian Sea region, which include dwindling water levels, mass fatalities among seals and fish, and the preservation of the Caspian seal population, marine ecosystems, and coastal areas.
The core mission of the Caspian Sea Research Institute is to gather objective and unbiased data on various aspects of the Caspian Sea's ecosystem. This information will then serve as the foundation for comprehensive measures taken by both state and local authorities. The establishment of this scientific institution will also empower Kazakhstan to fulfill its international and national commitments regarding the preservation of the Caspian Sea.
The initiative to create the Caspian Sea Research Institute was born out of a proposal by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The aim is to adopt a holistic approach to address water-related challenges, and the institute is expected to play a vital role in safeguarding the ecological well-being of the Caspian Sea.
