President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid a visit to the ALACEM cement plant, a significant milestone in the industrialization program of Kazakhstan. This venture, established as a Kazakh-Singapore joint partnership in 2020, has swiftly become one of the largest manufacturing enterprises in the Zhetysu region, contributing substantially to the country's construction industry.
The ALACEM cement plant, with an investment totaling KZT 47bn ($99mn), boasts an annual production capacity of 1.5 mn tons of cement, primarily employing the dry production method. The plant manufactures cement of various grades, including M400, M450, and M500, which are extensively utilized in the construction of both civil and industrial structures. Notably, the cement produced here played a pivotal role in the construction of the Ayusai dam, an impressive feat in the Bolshaya Almatinka River gorge.
Managing Director Stanislav Shcherbakov emphasized the plant's crucial role in meeting the cement needs of Almaty, the Zhetysu region, and the Almaty region, supplying up to 65% of their demands. The plant's commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices is evident through the utilization of advanced technologies and a waste-free production system. Furthermore, an intelligent DCS (Distributed Control System) has been implemented to maintain the highest levels of production efficiency and quality.
The ALACEM cement plant has become an economic lifeline for the region, employing approximately 600 local residents in its industrial, transport, and logistics divisions. Furthermore, an additional 200 employment opportunities have been generated through dealer centers responsible for the sale of the plant's products.
Since its inception, the company has taken its social responsibilities seriously, dedicating KZT 2.7bn ($5.7mn) to support the development of the Kerbulak district. These funds have been instrumental in the renovation of the Saryozek – Koktal road and the successful execution of various social projects in the area, contributing to the betterment of the local community.
President Tokayev expressed his enthusiasm for the opening of this monumental production facility, acknowledging its pivotal role in advancing the construction industry and enhancing local infrastructure. He highlighted the significant contributions that the plant's founders are making to Kazakhstan's economic growth.
Moreover, the company's founders are actively pursuing further investment projects within the country. In 2021, the acquisition and modernization of the Kazakh cement enterprise in the Zharminsky district of the Abay region led to the creation of 450 new jobs. In the near future, plans are underway to launch another cement plant in the Kordai district of the Zhambyl region. These initiatives are a testament to ALACEM's commitment to regional development and its positive impact on the country's economy. Furthermore, the plant's products are being exported to neighboring countries, namely Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, further enhancing its economic significance.
