The Ashgabat office of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) reports that it has held a seminar in the Turkmen capital to discuss the modernisation of customs mechanisms and the improvement of export procedures.
Participants included customs officials, financiers, bankers, entrepreneurs and representatives of Turkmenbashi International Port.
John MacGregor, Head of the OSCE local Centre, addressed the gathering.
"The OSCE attaches great importance to addressing the growing need to maintain and further develop regional and international economic ties, including by facilitating trade, accelerating economic development and growth, diversifying value-added exports, and ultimately building regionally diversified economies".
The event covered regulatory standards for global trade, customs supervision in free economic zones, export documentation and the single window project.
The agenda also included topics such as the digitalisation of customs procedures, the development of the system of port communities and World Trade Organisation (WTO) tariff policy.
Turkmenistan has land borders with Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. On the Caspian Sea, it borders Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia.
