Ulan Japarov, the nephew of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, has been placed under house arrest 24.kg reports.
The investigator from the Ministry of Internal Affairs has requested a change in the precautionary measure for Ulan Japarov, extending it until November 26. Prior to this, the president's nephew had been in custody at Correctional Institution No. 21.
Sadyr Japarov's relative is facing charges under the "Corruption" section of Kyrgyzstan's Criminal Code. The investigative service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is actively pursuing the case. This information was confirmed by Dayirbek Orunbekov, the head of the press service for the President of Kyrgyzstan.
Sadir Japarov had previously emphasized that everyone, regardless of their connections or family ties, would be held accountable for their actions in accordance with the law, as noted by Orunbekov. In response to his nephew's arrest, Sadyr Japarov expressed that he believes in equal treatment for all. He stated that anyone involved in corruption should face legal consequences.
He further conveyed his stance that individuals implicated in corruption would only be released after they compensate the state for double the damages incurred. Failing to make such payments would result in the individual remaining in custody. President Japarov emphasized that he would not shield a wrongdoer just because of family ties, as doing so would set a precedent for others. He cited a Kyrgyz saying that underscores the importance of one punishment serving as a lesson for many. This, he explained, is the reasoning behind his approach.
