The prestigious session is taking place in Astana and is a milestone as Kazakhstan becomes the first Central Asian country to host this event. Dignitaries, including WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus and head of the WHO Regional Office for Europe Hans Kluge, have gathered, alongside health ministers, vice-ministers, and medical experts from 54 countries.

The two-day session is dedicated to addressing critical healthcare issues, such as achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, combating infectious and non-communicable diseases, and exploring advancements in healthcare.

Prime Minister Smailov emphasized that the health and well-being of citizens are paramount in Kazakhstan's policy agenda. The country has made significant strides in ensuring universal access to healthcare services for its residents since gaining independence, and it has also implemented a system of social health insurance.

"We are conducting targeted work on disease prevention and promotion of a healthy lifestyle in society," Prime Minister Smailov stated.

He further highlighted the extensive infrastructure of primary healthcare that has been developed across the nation. Each region now boasts centers of excellence operating on a family service principle. Presently, primary healthcare financing accounts for 56% of the total healthcare budget.

Last year, the Government of Kazakhstan approved the national project "Modernization of Rural Health Care," aimed at expanding healthcare services in remote areas. This initiative includes the introduction of 655 new primary care facilities and the modernization of 32 district hospitals.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan has established a centralized ambulance service and created conditions conducive to the development of medical aviation.

Prime Minister Smailov underscored the importance of ensuring a capable and dedicated medical workforce by providing favorable working conditions for healthcare professionals. The government has implemented a policy of annually increasing doctors' salaries by 30% and middle medical workers' salaries by 20%.

Additionally, Kazakhstan is at the forefront of healthcare digitalization, focusing on the integration and standardization of information systems. Plans include the introduction of electronic health passports, granting every citizen full access to their relevant health information.

In a significant announcement, Alikhan Smailov revealed the forthcoming opening of a National Scientific Oncology Center with proton therapy next year.

"Our goals for the future are ambitious. We intend to further strengthen our healthcare system," he declared.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Smailov expressed Kazakhstan's eagerness to engage in discussions and receive recommendations for the continued development of the nation's healthcare sector.

"We are ready to share our experience and put forward ideas that will determine the development of health care systems in our region," Smailov affirmed.
