Samarkand, Uzbekistan, is gearing up to host a significant global investment forum orchestrated by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in conjunction with its 25th General Assembly session, set to take place from October 16 to 20.
Anticipated to draw more than 1,000 attendees hailing from 128 countries, including 79 tourism ministers and 24 deputy tourism ministers, the event will also assemble representatives from 160 UN member states and 500 affiliate members. President Mirziyoyev is optimistic that this occasion will offer a splendid platform to highlight the tourism sector.
Almost 100 local journalists, both independent and working for local agencies will be covering the event.
The assembly will encompass a diverse range of meetings with a focus on education, innovation, and sustainability. These meetings will serve as platforms for participants to share their perspectives and concerns, with the aim of enhancing the future endeavors and initiatives of the UNWTO.
Key agenda items include:
- Examination of current trends in international tourism
- Implementation of the General Programme of Work for 2022-2023
- Consideration of the Draft Programme of Work for 2024-2025
- Assessment of the Organization's financial status
- Overview of Human Resources Policies
- Review of Membership status
- Presentation of the Report on the Task Force on Redesigning Tourism for the Future
- Progress update on the UNWTO Regional and Thematic Offices
- Advancements in the Organization's reform efforts, with a focus on JIU and OIOS recommendations.
Additionally, alongside the primary assembly, special events will include the Global Forum on Education, the Global Investment Forum, and a dedicated event for World Tourism Day for 2022-2023 and 2024-2025.
