During a conference in Saudi Arabia on "Tourism and Green Investments," Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), praised Uzbekistan as an emerging and attractive travel destination. He encouraged delegates from UNWTO member countries to explore the country's potential.
Uzbekistan's delegation also highlighted the nation's tourism reforms, new directions, green technologies in tourism, and preparations for the 25th UNWTO General Assembly. The press secretary of the Ministry of Ecology, Environment, and Climate Change has reported.
As part of the event, the Uzbekistan delegation also participated in presenting the country's tourism potential. Delegates from member countries of the World Tourism Organization were briefed on the tourism reforms in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the new directions, green technologies being implemented in the field, as well as the preparations for the 25th General Assembly.
The conference brought together over 500 delegates, including more than 50 tourism ministers and international experts, to discuss topics like ecology, sustainable tourism, education, innovation, and gender issues.
Pololikashvili urged attendees to actively participate in the upcoming 25th General Assembly events in Samarkand from October 16 to 20
This marks the first time that the UNWTO General Assembly will take place in Uzbekistan.
Additionally, it was agreed that Georgia would host the World Tourism Day celebrations in 2024.
