Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan, met with Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), during his visit to the country on July 12, the President's press service reports.
The meeting focused on discussions regarding the further development of modern tourism infrastructure in Uzbekistan and the promotion of the country's tourism destinations in collaboration with the UNWTO, a leading organization within the UN system specialized in the tourism sector.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Secretary-General conveyed congratulations on behalf of the UNWTO structures and institutions, commending the President on his successful presidential election and wishing him happiness and great success.
Particular attention was given to the preparations and hosting of the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand in October, which is considered a significant international tourism event. Emphasis was placed on the importance of expanding practical cooperation to attract prominent investors, including well-known foreign companies and brands, for the implementation of projects aimed at creating modern and convenient tourism infrastructure in Uzbekistan.
Additionally, joint initiatives will be implemented in the country to enhance its international image, advance education in the tourism field, and foster the training of highly skilled professionals. This includes the establishment of the UNWTO International Academy and the establishment of a thematic office to support these efforts.
