President of Kyrgyzstan and Germany's Vice Chancellor forge path to enhanced bilateral economic cooperation

In a momentous stride towards enhancing bilateral relations, President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan engaged in a pivotal meeting with Robert Habeck, Germany's Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, during his official visit to Berlin.

The discussions held during the meeting spanned a broad spectrum of issues concerning the Kyrgyzstan-Germany bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on trade, economic growth, and investments.

Sadyr Japarov emphasized the importance of this meeting as a demonstration of Germany's commitment to partnering with Kyrgyzstan on issues that are of paramount significance to both nations, such as the economy, ecology, and the fight against climate change.

In response, Robert Habeck conveyed Germany's keen interest in forging a new partnership in its trade policy, with a specific emphasis on Central Asian countries. He underscored the meticulous approach German companies adopt before investing abroad, evaluating the conditions offered by the host country. Habeck further stated that his primary objective is to engage in discussions with potential German investors to explore opportunities in the Kyrgyz market.

The Vice Chancellor outlined three key areas in Kyrgyzstan that could potentially pique the interest of German entrepreneurs:

    • Raw Materials: Kyrgyzstan's abundant natural resources, including minerals and precious metals, present attractive opportunities for investors in the raw materials sector.
    • Renewable Energy Sources: With its promising potential for harnessing renewable energy, Kyrgyzstan offers a compelling landscape for investments in sustainable and clean energy solutions.
    • Human Resources: The nation's skilled workforce and their capacity for innovation and adaptability make Kyrgyzstan an appealing destination for businesses seeking talented professionals.

President Sadyr Japarov shared positive statistics on the burgeoning trade relations between Kyrgyzstan and Germany, highlighting a remarkable 138% increase in trade turnover over the previous year, reaching a total of $180mn. He noted that Germany continues to be one of Kyrgyzstan's key trade partners within the European Union. The Kyrgyz side expressed its intent to enhance not only the volume of trade but also to balance the trade equation by increasing exports.

Turning the spotlight on mutual investments, President Japarov acknowledged that the full potential of Kyrgyzstan-Germany investment ties has yet to be realized. Kyrgyzstan is eager to attract investments not only from Germany but also from other EU member states. Japarov highlighted Kyrgyzstan's strategic location on the logistics routes between China and Europe, emphasizing the benefits it brings for potential investors seeking to access these crucial markets.

This meeting between the President of Kyrgyzstan and the Vice Chancellor of Germany has set the stage for deeper economic collaboration between the two nations. It underscores Germany's commitment to exploring opportunities in Central Asia, and Kyrgyzstan's determination to foster economic growth through foreign investments and trade partnerships. As both countries pursue their shared interests, the future holds promise for strengthened ties and enhanced cooperation.
