Since the Islamic Emirate came to power (in August 2021 - Daryo), it has introduced trade attachés to Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and Turkmenistan, the ToloNews (Afghanistan) reports.
"The business attachés are important for the economic development of Afghanistan with several countries," the news agency quoted deputy minister of the Economy, Abdul Latif Nazari as saying. Efforts are underway to introduce more attachés to various countries.
Turkmenistan shares more than 800 km of border with Afghanistan.
Ashgabat is linking a number of its major regional projects with Afghanistan towards South Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, including a gas pipeline, a railway, an electricity grid and a fibre-optic cable.
However, negotiations to restart these projects have revealed serious funding and security problems.
Experts have told Daryo that the Asian Development Bank, which has been promoting the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan gas pipeline project, and other financial institutions in Kabul had suspended their operations in anticipation of international recognition of the Taliban.
