Turkmenistan among Kyrgyzstan's main electricity suppliers, Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibrayev told reporters.
"We have to import a total of 3.8bn kilowatt hours. We have a deficit of 3.2bn, but we have a reserve. We don't know what kind of winter we're going to have".
Turkmenistan will supply 1.6bn kWh, Kazakhstan 1.5bn, Russia 400mn and Uzbekistan 250mn, he said.
Kyrgyzstan started buying electricity from Turkmenistan in August 2021. Experts told Daryo that there were interruptions in December 2022 due to an energy crisis in transit Uzbekistan, which has promised to compensate for these losses.
Turkmenistan also sells this energy source to Afghanistan, Iran and Uzbekistan. Ashgabat is interested in new markets in the Caucasus (via Iran) and South Asia (via Afghanistan).
In Turkmenistan, electricity is generated from natural gas. According to the plan, the country's total electricity production will reach 37.5bn kilowatt-hours in 2028, up from 28.4bn in 2021.
