The sixth meeting of the High Level Working Group on the Caspian Sea will be held in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) from 11 to 13 September 2023, the Azerbaijani Embassy reports.
The event will be attended by delegations from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.
The experts told Daryo that the agenda includes a draft agreement on the methodology for the establishment of direct baselines in the Caspian Sea, on the basis of which the width of territorial waters and the line of the maritime state boundary should be determined in individual sections.
According to them, the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea signed in 2018 is a framework document and does not solve the whole set of problems related to the delimitation of territories.
This, in particular, applies to the issue of delimitation of the Caspian Sea bed in the southern part, between Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Iran.
