The EU and Turkmenistan exchanged views on the holding of the next meeting of the "EU - Central Asia" Special Representatives for Afghanistan, the Turkmenistan's foreign ministry reports.
EU Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas Nicklasson discussed the issue online with Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev.
The parties discussed issues of cooperation in the framework of international structures on Afghanistan directed to resolve the situation in this country.
Afghanistan, which is on the brink of a humanitarian disaster, borders three of the five Central Asian countries - Tajikistan (1,300km), Turkmenistan (800km) and Uzbekistan (144km).
All of these countries link a number of their major regional economic projects to Afghan territory. Ashgabat sends humanitarian supplies and medical aid to the country's northern provinces, where ethnic Uzbeks and Turkmens live.
