In the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year (started 21 March), 793 citizens of Turkmenistan visited the Iranian city of Mashhad for medical purposes, the Tehran Times reports.
Davood Khosh-shekan, who presides over the medical tourism department at the Mashhad University, said this, adding that coronavirus-related restrictions have been cancelled this year.
"8,708 Afghan nationals, 3,684 people from Iraq, 793 from Turkmenistan, and 226 travelers from Bahrain were admitted to Mashhad hospitals during the first three months of the current year."
The city's treasury revenues from medical tourism totalled about 1.119tn rials (some $2.2mn), indicating a 35% year-on-year growth.
Turkmen citizens also visit Turkey, India, Russia and Uzbekistan for therapeutic purposes, experts told Daryo.
