Turkmenistan's trade with the countries of the European Union totaled over €494.66mn from January to May 2023, up 17.8% YoY, the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan reports.
Turkmenistan exported €273.16mn worth of goods to the EU, a 29% increase from the previous year. Imports from the EU to Turkmenistan increased by 4% to €221.5mn.
The European Parliament will ratify the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) with Turkmenistan, which has been governed by an Interim Trade Agreement for over a decade.
Experts told Daryo that the EU hopes to receive Turkmen gas via the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye, which would give energy security to the continent that has depended on Russia.
Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov is due to visit Brussels later this year.
