Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban discussed prospects for energy cooperation in Budapest, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The report said Turkmenistan, which has the richest hydrocarbon reserves, is implementing a strategy to diversify energy flows. "The European vector has been and remains one of the priorities."
In turn, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto urged companies to start commercial negotiations on Turkmen gas supplies to Europe. He said in a video message broadcast on social networks.
"On the part of Turkmenistan, the political will and political intention to make Hungary one of the destinations of potential Turkmen gas supplies to Europe and one of the transit countries is very clear. The political agreement has been concluded, now it is the turn of the companies to continue commercial negotiations".
Experts told Daryo that Hungary, which receives Russian gas from Turkey, is keen to diversify its suppliers, including from the Caspian region.
"The optimal project for transporting Turkmen gas to Europe is the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline to Azerbaijan, which borders Turkey."
