On August 14, it was reported that bubonic plague had spread to China and Mongolia. Still, Uzbekistan is not at risk of an outbreak, according to the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health.
Bubonic plague is a highly infectious disease and has caused three pandemics throughout history, claiming the lives of millions of people. The disease is transmitted through flea and tick bites and is characterized by severe symptoms, including fever, skin lesions, lymph nodes, lungs, and septic conditions.
However, Uzbekistan has anti-plague institutions that detect outbreaks in a timely manner and prevent epidemics. Sanitary quarantine points have been installed at over fifty border points to prevent the import of the disease from abroad.
Earlier, Daryo reported that since the advent of 2023, there have been 1,671 reported cases of measles in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan combined. Uzbekistan has reported 164 cases, while Kyrgyzstan has reported 1,507 cases.
