Despite the global decline in Covid-19 cases and fatalities since the onset of 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a cautionary notice stating that cases have surged by a staggering 80% within the last month. Furthermore, the WHO has identified a new subtype of the Omicron strain, "Eris" (EG.5.1), which is rapidly disseminated worldwide.
In an interview with Panorama.am, epidemiologist Nerses Grigoryan reported that Armenia has seen an increase in coronavirus cases. In the last 14 days, 27 cases have been confirmed, which is 8 more than the previous 14-day period.
Per his statement, the current count of individuals undergoing inpatient care amounts to 15. No casualties have been recorded.
The epidemiological situation is currently stable, with Coronavirus classified under acute respiratory infections.
Nerses Grigoryan also noted that WHO had classified the types of coronaviruses as of concern, which is not currently spreading and have wholly stopped spreading, as well as the subtypes of interest that include the Omicron strain.
