The cost of living for foreign workers (expats) in Ashgabat (with a population of 1,0mn) as at July 2023 is very high in comparison to other places in the world, reports Xpatulator.(USA)
Ashgabat is 117,8% more expensive than Houston TX (USA) for groceries, 3,6% more expensive for household costs than Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and -33,8% cheaper for transport costs than Dubai (UAE).
"We have collected prices for the same items, world wide, based on Expat spending norms, in or closest to the location, and converted them to $USD so that we can compare the cost of 13 different baskets in 780 global locations."
Cost of Living Index (COLI), for all 13 basket groups in Turkmenistan, of 102,26 (New York =100).
Turkmenistan is 86,5% more expensive than USA for groceries, -64,3% cheaper for household costs than UK, and -15,5% cheaper for transport costs than India.
