A delegation from the Iraqi government is scheduled to visit Ashgabat to explore potential collaborations in multiple sectors of the economy, including the fuel and energy industry.
Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Batyr Rejepov, received Iraqi Charge d'Affaires Jaber Najm Abdullah Al-Tamimi, the Turkmen diplomatic mission reports in a press release.
"The sides discussed a number of protocol and organisational issues related to the upcoming visit of the Iraqi delegation to Turkmenistan."
In early July, Iraq faced disruptions in the supply of Iranian gas (which accounts for about 40% of imports), and its government decided to find alternatives, including Turkmenistan and Qatar.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmen gas could come to Iraq via Iran, which announces its readiness to re-export it to new markets - on a reimbursable basis, up to 15bn cubic meters annually.
