South Korea's Daewoo E&C is preparing to implement a major project in Turkmenistan's gas-chemical industry, a representative of the state concern "Turkmenhimiya" told Daryo.
Natural gas, which Turkmenistan is so rich in, will be used as a raw material for the production of mineral fertilizers - ammonia with a capacity of 660 thousand tons per year and urea with a capacity of 1mn 155 thousand tons.
"We have just conducted a joint study of the location of the future plant with environmentally friendly production in the western region of the country".
Turkmenistan, rich in natural gas, has been keen in recent years to diversify its economy with a focus on high value-added products.
Companies from Japan, which use innovative technologies from the Danish Haldor Topsoe, have been active in this new sector for Turkmenistan.
In particular, not far from the Turkmen capital, the world's only plant refining natural gas into synthetic gasoline of Euro-5 standard on an industrial scale was launched in the Owadan Depe area in 2019.
