Afghanistan, currently under Taliban rule, holds the unfortunate distinction of having the most significant disparity between the status of women and men, according to the Gender Gap Index 2023 released by the World Economic Forum, Sputnik Afghanistan reports.
Afghanistan ranks at the bottom, occupying the last 146th position out of the all countries evaluated. When compared to neighboring nations in the region, the situation unfolds as follows: China stands at 107th place, Tajikistan at 111th, Pakistan at 142nd, and Iran at 143rd.
However, data for Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan is currently unavailable. The index methodology focuses on four key indicators pertaining to women, namely economic participation, access to education, healthcare accessibility and political engagement.
