Andijan, Uzbekistan - A resident of Andijan has been sentenced to 10 years and 1 month in prison after joining the ranks of terrorists in Syria, according to the national news agency of Uzbekistan. The man, born in 1997, traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, in June 2017 to work as a salesman in a retail store. A year later, his younger brother joined him in Istanbul, and they began working together.
However, the brothers became swayed by religious fanaticism when the older brother, born in 1995, misled his sibling and introduced him to lectures by Sadiq Samarqandi, Abdullah Zufar, and Abdullah Bukhari - ideological leaders of terrorist organizations and religious extremist movements. They convinced him that it was necessary to go to Syria and engage in jihad.
In the autumn of 2018, both brothers joined the ranks of a terrorist organization in Syria. Tragically, during armed clashes, the elder brother lost his life. Upon discovering his brother's body, the younger brother, who had just completed combat training, buried him.
Disillusioned by internal conflicts and power struggles between terrorist organizations, the young man from Andijan returned to Turkey using money sent by his mother. He then spent some time in Kyrgyzstan before moving on to Kazakhstan, where he obtained a fake civil passport. However, he was subsequently detained by law enforcement agencies for document forgery and faced criminal charges.
After serving his sentence in Kazakhstan, the individual was deported to Uzbekistan. In accordance with the verdict of the Andijan City Criminal Court, he was found guilty under Articles 155-2 and 244-2 of the Criminal Code for his involvement in the activities of the terrorist organization "Tawhid Wal-Jihad." The court sentenced him to 10 years and 1 month of imprisonment.
