Gifu Prefecture, Japan - Tragedy struck at a military training ground in Gifu Prefecture, located in central Japan, as a cadet opened fire and killed his colleague. NHK reports that at least one person was killed in the shooting incident.
According to the television channel, an 18-year-old cadet of the Japan Self-Defense Forces discharged rounds from an automatic weapon during the incident. Three of his fellow colleagues were injured in the shooting, with one of them succumbing to their injuries at the hospital. The cadet has been apprehended by authorities and is currently undergoing questioning by the police.
Yahoo Japan reports that the injured soldiers ranged in age from 20 to 50 years old. Sadly, the youngest among them lost their life as a result of the injuries sustained. The incident took place during firing exercises at the training ground.
This tragic event follows a recent incident in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where a police officer shot his colleague in the head. The incident occurred within the premises of the Olmalin district police department. The officer responsible for the shooting could face up to four years in prison for the charge of manslaughter.
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting at the military training ground in Japan to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
