Tanzila Narbayeva, the Chairperson of Uzbekistan's Senate, has paid her visit to Switzerland to attend the 111th session of the International Labor Conference, Dunyo reports.
Senator has held a series of bilateral meetings, including one with Gilbert F. Houngbo, the Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO). The discussion centered on the current state of affairs and prospects of the relationship between Uzbekistan and the organization.
Besides, the two sides focused on expanding the scope of cooperation and introducing decent working conditions in the country while highlighting that the practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and ILO had strengthened the labor relations system in recent years, achieving ten significant indicators. In addition, the creation of the ILO Coalition for Social Justice, with Uzbekistan being considered one of its first members from Europe and Central Asia, was noted.
The ILO Director-General praised Uzbekistan's wide-scale reforms, commending the country's determination and will to build a social state. He expressed his satisfaction with the level of relations reached and considered Uzbekistan a model country for other states.
Tanzila Narbayeva also met with Marcelo Abi-Ramia Caetano, the Secretary General of the International Social Security Association (ISSA), to discuss taking bilateral cooperation to a new level. The parties agreed to implement promising projects and programs for the active and comprehensive development of social protection.
Furthermore, Narbayeva interviewed Maria Helena André, the International Labor Organization Office Director. They discussed the introduction of the principles of decent work and social protection, the fight against informal employment, the provision of basic income for the population needing social security, and the implementation of international labor and social protection standards.
The Head of the ILO Bureau stressed the importance of economic and social development based on the fundamental principles of workers' rights, federations' freedoms, and the right to decent work. The two sides recognized bilateral efforts to strengthen the legal and institutional framework in Uzbekistan and emphasized the need to ensure the stability of the achieved results.
