Hasht-e Subh Daily reported that, in Afghanistan's Herat province, a pregnant mother was stabbed to death by her step-son on June 13.
The incident occured when the woman went shopping and Taliban officials accused her of not wearing a hijab. They then brought the woman to her front door, called her husband and step-son, and informed them that she did not follow the hijab regulations.
The woman's step-son stabbed her to death in front of her 75-year-old husband after negotiating with Taliban leaders.
According to authorities, the mother was 26 years old when she was severely stabbed by her stepson while carrying a nine-month-old kid. The woman's husband was captured by the Taliban in connection with the issue, but her son escaped.
Since the Taliban regained power in August 2021, they have issued a number of edicts restricting women's freedom, including banning them from working for the government, attending secondary school, and travelling more than 45 miles (72 km) without the presence of a mahram, or male guardian. In May 2022, the Taliban implemented one of the most severe restrictions, forcing women to cover totally in public, ideally with the customary burqa.
"If a woman is caught not wearing a hijab, her mahram (male guardian) will be warned." According to the statement, "the guardian will be summoned [by Taliban officials] the second time, and after repeated notification, her guardian will be imprisoned for three days."
