The lifeless body of a 16-year-old boy, who had been reported missing, was discovered in a canal in the city of Yangiyul, Tashkent region, after one day of search efforts. Rustam Alimov, the head of the Information Service of the Department of Internal Affairs in Tashkent region, informed "Daryo" about the incident.
At 13:10 local time, authorities received information that a 16-year-old named M.I. had disappeared while swimming in the Jo'nariq canal in Yangiyul. In response, three rescue divers were dispatched to search for the boy, and on June 4 at 10:00, his body was recovered.
The incident is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities.
Similar Incident in Fergana
In Fergana region's Qo'shtepa district, a group of high school graduates went swimming in the Katta Fergana canal on May 25th. Unfortunately, one of them did not return after swimming. After a nine-day search operation conducted by officials, the body was found on June 3.
Drowning Incidents in Uzbekistan
During the summer season of 2022, Uzbekistan witnessed 142 deaths due to drowning incidents, with 45.3% of the victims being individuals who were underage. These tragic events occurred in 51 cases where swimming was prohibited, unauthorized, or carried out under unsafe conditions. Additionally, negligence in hazardous water reservoirs accounted for 85 cases, highlighting the improper use of bridges in rivers, canals, and irrigation channels to shorten routes, as well as the failure to comply with safety regulations in water reservoirs along riverbanks.
Comprehensive inspection measures are currently being implemented, and legal actions will be taken based on the findings.
